Irresponsible Science?
Dear friends and colleagues
I’m writing to let you know about Scientists for Global Responsibility’s latest in-depth report – which I’ve attached as a pdf. It’s called: ‘Irresponsible Science? How the fossil fuel and arms industries finance professional engineering and science organisations’
The report was published earlier this month and received coverage in, for example, ‘The Sunday Times’.* It reveals an extensive pattern of financial links between the arms and fossil fuel industries on the one hand, and some of the UK’s leading professional engineering and science organisations on the other. The links revealed include funding and branding of school education programmes, sponsorship of prestige conferences, investments, major donations, and corporate membership. The professional organisations that received the most significant funding
from the arms industries were the Royal Academy of Engineering and EngineeringUK.
A blog summarising the report can be found on our website:
https://www.sgr.org.uk/resources/irresponsible-science
The full report – together with appendices including all the data we gathered – can also be downloaded from our website: https://www.sgr.org.uk/publications/irresponsible-science
If you would like a printed copy of the report, please let me know.
If you’d be interesting in discussing campaigning opportunities using this report, please do get in touch.
best wishes
Stuart Parkinson
